10th Grade Course Plan
I’m planning to major in computer science and would like some thoughts on my course selections:
- Math: AP Calculus AB
- Science: Honors Chemistry
- English: Honors American Literature
- Social Studies: AP U.S. History (APUSH)
- Language: Honors Spanish II
I also have mandatory classes for Religion and PE, which are part of my core curriculum. Additionally, I have the option to take AP Computer Science A in 11th grade. What do you think?
Your course plan looks strong, especially for someone aiming for a computer science major! Here’s a breakdown of each subject:
Math – AP Calculus AB: This is an excellent choice. A solid foundation in calculus will be beneficial for computer science, especially if you plan to pursue advanced studies.
Science – Chemistry Honors: Chemistry honors will help you develop critical thinking and analytical skills, which are valuable in computer science, even if it’s not directly related.
English – American Literature Honors: Strong communication skills are essential in any field, including computer science. An honors class will help you sharpen your writing and analytical skills.
Social Studies – APUSH: This course will help you develop your understanding of historical contexts, which can be important for broader problem-solving skills and critical thought.
Language – Spanish 2 Honors: Being bilingual can be a significant asset in any career, including technology, where collaboration with diverse teams is common.
Overall, your course choices reflect a rigorous and well-rounded education. Adding AP Computer Science A in 11th grade will enhance your programming skills and knowledge, complementing your strong math background. Don’t forget to also pursue extracurricular activities related to computer science, like coding clubs or competitions, to further demonstrate your passion in this field!
