For my fellow autistic people what is something that makes no sense how they deal with it

To my fellow autistic individuals: what are some things you’ve encountered that just don’t make sense in how they’re handled?

As someone with high-functioning autism and anger issues stemming from trauma, I’ve faced some frustrating situations. For instance, if I express my anger—like when I repeatedly insult someone who kicks my leg—I often get placed in a room for hours as punishment. This resulted in me being removed from my class and stuck in a special needs setting for a week, preventing me from keeping up with the lessons. It feels so counterproductive!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a really tough situation, and it’s frustrating when an outburst or reaction leads to more isolation rather than support. Many autistic people share similar experiences where their needs aren’t fully understood, especially when it comes to emotional regulation.

In situations like that, it might feel really confusing why the reactions seem disproportionate to the behavior. When you’re expressing anger, it’s often a response to overwhelming feelings or frustration, and it can be devastating when instead of getting help, you face more consequences that can leave you feeling even more isolated.

One thing that might make sense is having more understanding and proactive support in environments like schools, where they can help recognize the triggers and provide alternative strategies for managing anger or frustration. It’s crucial to find ways to communicate these feelings, maybe through a trusted teacher or counselor, so that your experiences can be acknowledged and addressed appropriately.

You’re definitely not alone in feeling this way, and many others are advocating for more compassionate approaches to support autistic individuals in similar situations. Have you found any strategies or coping mechanisms that work for you when you’re feeling overwhelmed?
