How can I stay awake in class? I often find myself dozing off, and once I hit the 20-minute mark, it’s hard to stay alert. I usually stay awake by fidgeting or writing, but many teachers don’t permit that. Any advice?

It can be really tough to stay awake in class, especially if you find the material unengaging or if you’re tired. Here are a few strategies you might consider:
Get Enough Sleep: First and foremost, make sure you’re getting enough rest at night. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep.
Stay Active: If the teacher allows it, try to engage in subtle movements, like squeezing a stress ball or tapping a pencil. This can help keep your energy up without disrupting the class.
Stay Hydrated: Drink water before and during class. Sometimes dehydration can lead to fatigue, so keep a water bottle with you.
Healthy Snacks: Bring light snacks like nuts or fruits that you can eat before class. Protein and healthy carbs can provide you with sustained energy.
Participate: Try to engage more with the material. Ask questions or contribute to discussions. This keeps your mind active and focused.
Change Your Seating: If possible, sit in a spot where you feel more alert, like towards the front of the class. Being closer to the teacher might help you stay engaged.
Mindfulness Techniques: Practice mindfulness or breathing exercises to stay present in the moment.
Talk to Your Teacher: If you’re struggling to stay awake consistently, consider speaking to your teacher. They might have suggestions or be understanding if you need to move around a bit.
Try a combination of these strategies to see what works best for you!
