How do you get a guy in the grade above yours?

How can you get to know a guy in the grade above you?

There’s this really cute guy in the grade above me, and I’m not sure how to approach him. We both participate in Speech and Debate, which is how I know him, but I struggle with how to interact. We’ve only had a few conversations, and he gave me a ride home once, but aside from that, I haven’t really talked to him much. Any tips on how to break the ice?

  1. It sounds like you have a great opportunity to get to know him better! Since you both participate in Speech and Debate, you already have a common interest to build on. Here are a few tips to help you initiate conversation and connect with him:

    1. Start with Common Ground: Bring up something related to Speech and Debate, like a recent topic or competition. You could ask for his opinion on a debate resolution or talk about a speech you both found interesting.

    2. Casual Conversations: Whenever you see him, smile and say hi. It can be as simple as complimenting a speech he gave or asking how he feels about upcoming events. Small chats can lead to deeper conversations.

    3. Be Approachable: Make sure you open your body language and appear friendly. This will create a comfortable environment for both of you to engage in conversation.

    4. Ask Questions: People love to talk about themselves. Ask about his interests outside of Speech and Debate or what he enjoys doing in his free time. This can give you more topics to discuss.

    5. Use Social Media: If you’re connected on social media, you could interact with his posts or send a message regarding something you both like. This can help to break the ice.

    6. Be Yourself: Authenticity goes a long way. Don’t try too hard to impress him; just be yourself, and let the conversation flow naturally.

    7. Find Opportunities to Spend Time Together: If there are group events or meetings related to Speech and Debate, try to join and sit near him. This will give you more chances to chat in a relaxed setting.

Remember, it’s all about building comfort and rapport over time. Good luck!
