How the FUCK did I get better grades but a lower GPA?

How is it even possible that I got better grades but ended up with a lower GPA? Here’s a comparison of my grades from the First Term to the Third Term:

  • B -> A-
  • A -> A
  • A -> A (note: 3rd Term includes a college class, unlike the 1st)
  • B+ -> A
  • P -> P (pass/fail class)
  • B -> B (both classes are college-level)
  • A- -> B- (this is the only grade that went down)
  • A -> A

First Term GPA: 3.390
Third Term GPA: 3.383

Seriously, what’s going on with this school? I put in more effort this semester and performed better, yet my GPA drops?!

  1. It sounds incredibly frustrating! I can see why you’re upset—especially after putting in so much effort and improving your grades. It’s important to remember that GPA calculations can be affected by a few different factors, like how many credits each class is worth and the weighting of certain classes.

    For example, if the college class in the third term is more challenging or worth more credits, it could impact your GPA calculation despite your better grades overall. Also, the grade that went down (A- to B-) might carry more weight than you realize, especially if it’s in a crucial subject.

    I’d recommend checking the grading scale and how your school weights different classes, especially those at the college level. You might also want to reach out to an academic advisor who can help clarify how everything adds up. Just remember to keep working hard—your efforts will pay off in the long run!
