I’m frustrated with high school students who have the chance to play sports. This is a bit of a rant, but it’s hard not to feel this way when I see so many students getting opportunities that I didn’t have. I know that no one is entitled to anything, but it hurts to watch so many kids attend high schools where teams welcome every player during tryouts, while my school cut almost everyone, even for sports like tennis and swimming.
I was never able to pass tryouts and never got to experience being on a team. I often wonder how different my life would have been if I had gone to a less competitive high school. It’s a painful thought, knowing that I may only get that opportunity in another life.
I completely understand where you’re coming from. It’s tough to see others get opportunities that you felt were out of reach. Sports can be such a big part of the high school experience, and it’s only natural to feel left out when you see others thrive in that environment. It’s important to remember, though, that everyone has their own journey, and sometimes those challenges can lead us to discover new passions or strengths that we might not have realized otherwise.
While it’s painful to think about what could have been, try to focus on how you can still explore your interests now. There are plenty of ways to get involved in sports or physical activities outside of high school, whether through local clubs or community programs. Your potential isn’t limited to your high school experience, and who knows what new opportunities could be waiting for you?
