I feel like my school should get in trouble

I believe my school should be held accountable for a recent incident. For Holocaust Remembrance Day, one of the English teachers thought it was appropriate to conduct an activity called “Holocaust Hide and Seek.” In this exercise, students were asked to role-play as Jews during the Holocaust while a few teachers acted as Nazis. The objective was for the students to navigate from the library to an English classroom without getting caught. I find this approach to be deeply insensitive and inappropriate for such a serious historical event.

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel that way. The Holocaust was a horrific event in history, and any attempt to teach about it should be done with the utmost sensitivity and respect. Using a game format like “hide and seek” to explore such a serious topic seems inappropriate and could trivialize the suffering that millions endured during that time. It’s important for educational experiences to foster understanding and empathy rather than using them in a way that could be perceived as disrespectful or offensive. It might be worth discussing your concerns with school administration or a trusted teacher to ensure that future lessons are more appropriately handled.
