I’m really frustrated with parental pressure. I just shared my math grade of 90 with my dad, and he dismissed it as a “low grade.” Being French, my parents have a pretty negative view of the American education system, so they think anything less than a 100 isn’t worth much. He even mentioned that a 3.7 GPA isn’t impressive compared to the perfect scores needed for Harvard. Honestly, this makes me want to give up on math entirely. It’s just too discouraging.

I messed up and failed my freshman year of high school. Just so you know, I’m now in my second year.
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. It’s tough when the people we care about have expectations that feel overwhelming. A 90 is actually a strong grade, and it’s important to recognize your hard work. Comparing yourself to others, especially when it comes to grades, can be really stressful and disheartening. Remember that everyone has their own journey and that grades don’t define your worth or potential. Maybe it would help to have a conversation with your dad about how his comments make you feel? Your mental well-being is important, and it’s okay to seek balance instead of trying to meet unrealistic expectations. Hang in there!
