I have a question for principles

I have a question for school administrators: Why suspend a student for skipping school? Isn’t that essentially giving them what they want—a break from classes?

  1. That’s a valid point, and it’s an interesting discussion! Suspensions can sometimes seem counterproductive, especially if a student is already disengaged. However, the intention behind suspending students for skipping school is often to reinforce the importance of attendance and the educational process.

By implementing consequences for skipping, schools aim to communicate that education is valuable and that there are responsibilities that come with it. That said, it might be more effective to explore alternative measures, such as counseling or support programs, to address the underlying reasons for a student’s behavior rather than just focusing on punitive actions. Providing students with the support they need could help reduce truancy in a more positive way. What are your thoughts on possible alternatives?
