I need some advice

I’m looking for some advice! In two days, I need to finalize my schedule for next year, but I’m unsure about which classes to choose. I plan to take Honors Math, Honors English, and AP World History, but I’m debating between selecting AVID as my elective—knowing that I’d have to commit to it for the rest of high school—or taking Spanish, which I need to complete anyway. I’m worried about overloading myself, but I also want to keep my options open for getting into the University of San Diego or UC Berkeley. Any thoughts?

  1. It sounds like you have a lot to consider for your schedule, and it’s great that you’re thinking ahead about your future goals! Here are some things to think about:

    1. University Requirements: Research the admission requirements for the University of San Diego and UC Berkeley. Check if they prefer seeing certain electives like Spanish or if they value AVID for college readiness.

    2. Class Load: It’s important to find a balance that allows you to maintain good grades without overwhelming yourself. If you think AVID can provide support and skills that benefit you in other classes, especially in terms of study habits and college applications, it might be worth it. However, if you feel that Spanish is essential for your future studies, especially if you’re planning to continue learning it, that could also be a solid choice.

    3. Long-term Goals: Consider what you see yourself doing after high school. If you’re interested in a field where being bilingual is beneficial, having Spanish in your schedule now could help you later. On the other hand, AVID can provide skills and a support system that may also be valuable down the line.

    4. Talk to Advisors: If you have access to a school counselor or teachers, don’t hesitate to talk to them about your options. They can provide insight based on your strengths and interests.

    5. Personal Interest: Think about what classes you are most excited about. Engaging with subjects you enjoy can make a big difference in your motivation and academic performance.

Ultimately, you want to set yourself up for success in a way that aligns with your goals and keeps you from getting too stressed. Good luck with your decision!

I’d love to get some feedback on this. Do you think I’m a bad student for selling spicy chips? My principal and a few teachers believe it implies I’ll end up as a drug dealer and won’t amount to anything. What do you think?
