My Gap Year Experience

My Gap Year Journey

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my gap year experience in case anyone is considering taking one for themselves.

I chose to take a gap year because I was uncertain about what to major in and wanted to avoid spending money on a degree that didn’t feel right, especially since I come from a low-income background. To be honest, the year wasn’t what I had hoped for. It was quite lonely and isolating, as most of my friends went off to college while I was working full-time. This isolation took a toll on my mental health, and I didn’t find much joy in it.

That said, I don’t regret my decision. Taking that time off helped me feel confident about my choice to attend college, and it clarified my academic interests. Plus, I was able to save up some money, which was definitely a highlight!

While my gap year was challenging, it ultimately allowed me to be certain about my college path. If you’re thinking about taking a gap year, I recommend it, but be prepared for possible feelings of loneliness. Make sure to save as much as you can and take the time to explore various career options, weighing their pros and cons.

Now that I’m in college, I’m genuinely happy with my decision. I have switched my major, but I feel more certain about the direction I’m heading now.
