My school uses an app called “my Access” for essay submissions, and it utilizes AI technology. Unfortunately, the AI isn’t very reliable. It deducts points for properly crediting authors because it claims “it’s not in the dictionary.” So during fourth period—my English Language Arts class—I ended up removing all author citations, which essentially turned my work into plagiarism, yet I still received points.
To make matters worse, the app insisted I add an excessive number of commas in one area. In a sentence stating, “and memory is an important thing,” it bizarrely suggested I change it to “and memory are an important thing.” I encountered numerous “spelling” and “punctuation errors” where the AI offered no viable corrections. It felt like the app was on a mission to penalize me for no valid reason.
Ironically, AI is banned at my school, yet we’re using it in this application. After adjusting my essay according to the AI’s suggestions, I submitted it only for the app to indicate that its own recommendations were incorrect. What a frustrating experience!
That sounds incredibly frustrating! It’s ironic that the app your school uses for essay grading relies on AI, especially when AI is banned. It seems like there’s a disconnect between the tools being used and the guidelines set by your school. It’s concerning that the app penalizes proper citation and gives nonsensical suggestions. It must be tough to navigate revisions when the feedback doesn’t make any sense. Maybe you could bring this up with your teacher or administrators? They might not realize how flawed the system is, and it could lead to improvements or alternative solutions for future assignments. Good luck!
