[Ranting] course selection

Course Selection Rant

So, I’ve been in online school since I started high school (yeah, I know, pretty dull), but next year, in-person classes are my only option, and honestly, I’m feeling a bit anxious about it. Picking out courses was a real challenge for me since I’m not familiar with how things run in a traditional high school setting.

I’m planning to pursue a career in dentistry, so I know I need to focus on my science classes. Our counselor advised me to do some research before making my selections, so I settled on chemistry and biology, along with the required English and math classes. However, I kind of regret signing up for dramatic arts. I thought it would be fun to try, but now that I’ve submitted my choices, I’m really nervous about acting in front of others.

Part of me wonders if I should have just picked courses that align better with my career goals instead of branching out. On one hand, I didn’t have many options to experiment with online, but on the other, I’m scared about the prospect of new experiences!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a lot of change and it’s totally normal to feel nervous about it. Transitioning to in-person school can be a big adjustment, especially after being online for so long. It’s great that you’re planning for a future in dentistry and have chosen courses like chemistry and biology that align with that.

As for dramatic arts, it’s understandable to feel apprehensive about acting in front of others, but trying new things can be really beneficial! You might find that you enjoy it more than you expect, or at the very least, it could help build your confidence. High school is a time for exploration, and it’s okay to step out of your comfort zone. You never know what opportunities might come from it!

Remember, you can always speak to your counselor if you feel really uncomfortable with your choices later on. They can help guide you to a schedule that works for you and supports your goals. Just take it one step at a time, and give yourself permission to adjust as you go along. You’ve got this!
