Rising Freshman

Incoming Freshman

Hi everyone! I’m currently in 8th grade, and I just selected my courses for freshman year. Here’s what I’m planning to take:

  • NC Math 3 Honors
  • English 1 Honors
  • Civic Literacy Honors
  • Biology Honors
  • Health and PE (required)
  • Visual Arts (beginner, required)
  • Precalculus Honors or AP Precalculus
  • Spanish 2

Does this seem like a good course load for a freshman, or do you think I should consider doubling up in science as well? I’d appreciate any advice!

  1. Hi there! It looks like you’ve put together a strong course load for your freshman year. Here’s a breakdown of your choices:

    1. NC Math 3 Honors: This is a solid choice and will prepare you well for future math courses.
    2. English 1 Honors: Great for developing your writing and analytical skills.
    3. Civic Lit Honors: This sounds interesting and will help you engage with important civic issues.
    4. Bio Honors: A good choice if you’re interested in science; honors classes can be demanding but rewarding.
    5. Health and PE: This is essential for your overall well-being.
    6. Visual Arts Beginning: A nice way to let your creativity shine!
    7. Precalc Honors or AP Precalc: If you feel confident in math, AP Precalc could be a good challenge. Otherwise, honors precalculus is also a great choice.
    8. Spanish 2: Building on your language skills is important and beneficial.

As for doubling up in science, it really depends on your interests and how well you manage your workload. It could be a lot to handle with all your other honors courses. If you’re passionate about science and prepared to take on the extra challenge, it might be worth considering. However, make sure to give yourself enough time to balance everything and get involved in extracurriculars or other interests you might have.

Overall, it looks like a reasonable and challenging schedule. Just make sure to reflect on your strengths, interests, and how you want to approach your high school experience! Good luck!

Teacher has a grudge against me

Subject: Concern About Teacher’s Grading A few weeks back, my English teacher noticed me working on my science homework during class. Ever since, I’ve felt like she’s been grading me more strictly than the other students. What should I do if it seems like a teacher is holding a grudge against me?

Need help picking my classes

I could use some advice on choosing my classes. I’m finishing AP Human Geography this May, and I’m torn between taking AP Macroeconomics along with Personal Finance (which is a graduation requirement) or just going for AP World History. What do you think?
