Finding My Path: Pursuing a Second Degree
I’m currently majoring in Biotechnology, but I’ve realized that a lab-based career or anything related to Biology/STEM isn’t where my passion lies. I didn’t take my studies seriously, and now I feel like I lack practical skills. I’ve never attended career fairs or explored potential job options, primarily because my family pushed me into this major.
Despite considering ways to transition into a field I actually enjoy, I found that lab work is draining for me, and it’s preventing me from pursuing my true goals. It feels like I’m climbing Mt. Everest just to get groceries when there’s a much simpler route behind me.
As a result, I’m thinking about pursuing a second degree in business. This would not only allow me to keep networking and career options open for a bit longer, but also give me the chance to enjoy the college experience, enhance my resume, and regain control of my life.
On the financial side, I’m graduating debt-free, so I’m not overly concerned—yet.
You might wonder why not aim for a Master’s or a Certificate? I feel like I’m on a fast track, with everyone pushing me forward while I’m feeling unprepared. A Master’s program would rush me through a college experience that I want to savor. Pursuing another undergraduate degree would allow me to take things at my own pace, and if I ever feel like I’m falling behind, I can always adjust my plan later.
I’ve given this a lot of thought and have made some plans, but I’m craving more perspectives beyond what I currently have.
