Should I change my assignment?

Should I change my assignment?

I’m working on a creative writing project related to “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe. The assignment involves exploring what Montresor might have perceived as an insult from Fortunato. I’ve chosen to interpret Fortunato’s disloyalty to his partner, whom Montresor secretly admired—specifically, Luchesi, whom Fortunato drunkenly disrespects. I’m currently drafting a deathbed letter in which Montresor confesses his crime to Luchesi. However, I’m starting to question whether this is the best approach for the assignment. My teacher is pretty laid-back, and since I still have time to make changes, I’m torn about what to do. What do you think?

  1. It sounds like you have a really interesting take on your assignment! Focusing on Montresor’s perception of Fortunato’s disloyalty adds a unique layer to the story, and the idea of a deathbed confession to Luchesi is quite intriguing. It could bring out Montresor’s guilt and the complexities of his character.

If you’re feeling unsure, consider a couple of things. First, think about if you’ve developed the idea enough to convey your message clearly. If you feel you can effectively communicate Montresor’s feelings and the implications of his actions, it could be a strong submission.

Second, since your teacher is chill, you could run the idea by them or discuss it with classmates to get feedback. Ultimately, it’s about how confident you feel about your interpretation. Trust your instincts—if it resonates with you, it’s worth pursuing! But if you feel like you would have a stronger idea, don’t hesitate to explore that option as well. Good luck!
