Should I move? Is this a shit school?

Should I consider transferring schools? Is this place really that bad?

Hey there, I’m a Kiwi currently in Year 10, and honestly, this school is just not cutting it for me.

For starters, the constant emphasis on pride is overwhelming. Why is there a pride week? It feels more like a distraction from what we’re really here for—education.

Some of the kids can be pretty awful. I had an incident where one student almost clawed at my eyes because I playfully hit him with a twig during a light-hearted moment with friends. It was way over the top, and he showed no remorse whatsoever.

Then there’s the food situation—there’s this weird food pyramid they follow. If you’re in the extension classes, you definitely get more privileges and attention from the teachers. It feels like the head students are treated like royalty, while the rest of us get into trouble for the smallest things. I even got sent to the principal’s office for tossing a ball during P.E.!

The environment here has its challenges, with some kids getting involved in drugs and vaping. And while I respect everyone’s right to be who they are, the pressure to embrace pride seems a bit excessive for my taste.

So, is it just typical teenage angst, or do I really need to consider moving?

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a tough time at your school. It’s totally valid to feel frustrated with your environment, especially when it feels unjust or unsafe. Here are a few things to consider before making a decision to move:

    1. Talk to Someone: Have you discussed your feelings with a trusted teacher, counselor, or parent? Sometimes, talking it out can provide clarity and support.

    2. Evaluate the Environment: Consider whether these experiences are isolated or if they reflect a broader issue at your school. If things seem consistently negative, it might be worth exploring other options.

    3. Look at the Bigger Picture: Think about what you want from a school experience. Is it the academics, the social environment, or something else? If you’re missing out on what matters to you, that could influence your decision.

    4. Explore Alternatives: Before making a move, look into other school options in your area. Check their reputation, programs, and culture. It might help to visit and see if it feels like a better fit for you.

    5. Focus on the Positives: Are there any aspects of your school you like or any friends who support you? Sometimes it’s helpful to focus on the positive elements while assessing the negatives.

At the end of the day, prioritize your well-being. If you truly believe that moving to a different school would provide a better environment for you, it’s worth exploring that option. Good luck!
