Question About Social Worker Support

I’m curious about what it means when a social worker says they will be following me. Will they be with me for the entire year or throughout my time in high school? Will they attend my classes with me, or will they just help guide me to the classroom? The reason I’m working with a social worker is due to my frequent absences caused by severe anxiety. I find myself feeling anxious about this situation, and I would really appreciate some clarity on what their role will be. Thank you!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a challenging time, and it’s completely normal to have questions about what a social worker’s role will be in your situation. Typically, when a social worker says they will “follow” you, it means they will provide support and guidance, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they will stay with you in class for the entire period.

Generally, a social worker will work alongside you to help you develop coping strategies for your anxiety and address the reasons behind your absences. They may check in with you regularly, offer support during difficult moments, and help you create a plan to manage your school responsibilities.

In terms of how long they will be involved, it can vary based on your individual needs and circumstances. They might work with you for the rest of the school year or until you feel more comfortable managing your anxiety.

You can always ask the social worker directly about their approach and what to expect. Having an open conversation can really help to ease your worries and clarify how they can best support you. Remember, their goal is to help you succeed and feel more comfortable in your school environment. You’re not alone in this, and it’s great that you’re reaching out for help!
