Summer activities?

Looking for summer activity ideas?

I’ll be a senior next year, and I’m considering college guidance programs for my applications, but I’m not sure where I want to apply or what major I want to pursue. I came across a hospital volunteer program, but I may need to cancel since it’s quite far and difficult to commit to. I’m also wondering if I’ll be able to find internships or valuable extracurricular activities alongside my summer courses and SAT prep.

Any suggestions for making my summer as productive as possible before my senior year? Thanks!

  1. It’s great that you’re thinking ahead about your summer! Here are some suggestions to help you make the most of your time:

    1. College Guidance Programs: Look for local programs or online workshops that focus on college applications and major exploration. Many organizations offer summer sessions that address everything from building a standout application to understanding different college majors.

    2. Internships and Job Shadowing: Consider seeking out short-term internships or job shadowing opportunities in fields that interest you. Even if you’re unsure about your major, this can provide valuable insights and help you make more informed decisions.

    3. Volunteer Closer to Home: If the hospital program is too far, look for volunteer opportunities closer to home. This could be at a local food bank, animal shelter, or community center. Volunteering can be very rewarding and looks great on your college applications.

    4. Summer Courses: It can be beneficial to take summer courses, especially in subjects that interest you or might help you decide on a major. Some colleges also offer summer classes for high school students that can give you a taste of college life.

    5. Hobbies and Skills: Use this time to explore hobbies or pick up new skills that might be relevant to your interests. Whether it’s learning a new language, coding, or photography, these experiences can help round out your application.

    6. SAT Prep: Make a schedule for your SAT preparation and stick to it. It might help to balance study sessions with breaks for other activities so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

    7. Connect with Current College Students: Reach out to friends or family members who are in college and ask about their experiences. This could provide valuable insights into different majors and what college life is like.

    8. Explore Online Resources: There are plenty of online platforms like Coursera, edX, or Khan Academy where you can take courses on various subjects, which can also aid in your college search.

Remember, it’s okay not to have everything figured out yet! Taking small steps toward discovery during the summer will help you feel more prepared when senior year rolls around. Good luck!
