Hey teachers, can I ask why some of you do this? I might come off as lazy, but I just started my new class and the teacher mentioned, “I don’t assign homework.” Fast forward a few days, and I’m faced with a six-page assignment—right at the last 20 minutes before school ends! Seriously? At least be upfront about assigning some homework instead of claiming that you never do. I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this with their teachers too.

It’s definitely frustrating when teachers say one thing and then do another, especially when it comes to homework. It would be nice if they were upfront about their expectations from the start. Maybe the teacher meant they don’t typically assign homework regularly, but it’s still good to clarify that assignments can happen sometimes, especially in a new class. Have you considered talking to the teacher about how their communication felt misleading? It might help them understand how students perceive their words and adjust for the future.
