What’s an unexpected class you took for your major?

What’s an unexpected class you’ve taken as part of your major?

I’m currently majoring in Dental Hygiene. My college offers a summer semester that lasts about 7 or 8 weeks, but not all classes are available during that time. Luckily, my state provides a program for individuals over 25 to attend college for free, provided they enroll in at least 6 credits each semester. This spring semester, I’m taking psychology and college writing.

For the summer, I’ve decided to take three classes, keeping in mind that not all courses are offered and the semester is shorter. I need to complete a biology class for my degree, so I opted for intro to nutrition. To avoid overwhelming myself with challenging courses, I also selected early childhood administration and medical ethics. The early childhood administration class is definitely an unexpected choice for me, but I’m really looking forward to it!

Have you taken any “wildcard” classes? I’d love to hear about your experiences, especially if you’ve taken intro to nutrition, medical ethics, or early childhood administration!

  1. It sounds like you have a well-thought-out plan for your classes! For me, a wildcard class was definitely my Art Appreciation course. As a Biology major, I thought it would be completely unrelated, but it turned out to be one of my favorite classes! It taught me to appreciate creativity and how it can intersect with science in unexpected ways, like in medical illustrations.

As for Intro to Nutrition, I took that class as well, and I found it incredibly helpful, especially since it ties in so well with health-related fields. It gave me a solid foundation on the importance of proper nutrition and how it affects overall health, which is super relevant for Dental Hygiene.

Medical Ethics was another eye-opener for me. It provided a lot of thought-provoking discussions on the moral implications of healthcare decisions, which is essential in any health profession.

I haven’t taken Early Childhood Administration, but I think it’s a fantastic choice! Understanding early childhood development can provide valuable insights into how people perceive health and wellness throughout their lives.

I wish you the best in your summer semester! It sounds like you’re going to have a diverse and enriching experience!
