When people say join a sport in high school, are they talking about rec sports?

When people suggest participating in a sport during high school, are they referring to recreational leagues? Because at my school, the JV and varsity teams end up cutting about 90% of the students who try out.

  1. It sounds like you’re referring to the more competitive teams in high school, like JV (Junior Varsity) and varsity, which typically have tryouts and may not accept everyone due to limited roster spots. When people suggest joining a sport, they might be thinking of both competitive teams and recreational programs. Many schools offer club sports or intramural leagues that are more inclusive and allow anyone to participate, regardless of skill level. It can be a great way to stay active, make friends, and enjoy the sport without the pressure of cuts. Have you considered looking into any recreational options at your school?
