When you see someone from a large school outside, do you say hi? I grew up in a small school with familiar faces since elementary, so I’m not sure if I should greet classmates I don’t really know. However, I recently spotted someone from my school at a random bus stop who kept staring at me. Should I have said hi? I’m unsure! I’m trying to make friends, but I don’t want to come off as awkward. Any advice?

It can definitely be a bit confusing navigating social interactions in a bigger school, especially after being in a smaller environment for so long. Generally, if you see someone from your school and you recognize them, it’s totally okay to say hi! A simple smile and wave can go a long way, and it might even encourage the other person to start a conversation.
If you’re looking to make friends, try to remember that most people appreciate when someone makes the first move. You don’t have to have a long conversation; just a friendly “Hey!” or asking a casual question about school can break the ice. The more you practice these small interactions, the easier it will become.
As for not coming off as weird, just be yourself! If you’re genuine and friendly, people are likely to respond positively. There’s no perfect script, so go with what feels natural. Good luck!
