Rant About My Science Lab Teacher
Alright, let me give you a bit of background. Mrs. Twat (yes, that’s her real name) is absolutely intolerable. One time, she freaked out on me for checking the time on my phone—which I only did because the classroom clock was nearly impossible to read due to glare. That was just the first of many confrontations. She’s also claimed to have kicked my sister out of two clubs (take that with a huge grain of salt, because she’s not exactly honest). On the day this story takes place, I was running late, which, unfortunately, is pretty normal for me.
So I stroll in late, grab a packet from the front of the class, and put my phone in the communal phone bucket—this was after our school implemented a stricter phone policy, which is important later. I sit down next to my friend, who was already working on the assignment (which was about topographic maps—super easy material). I zip through the packet, and Mrs. Twat, who loves to patrol the room, notices me and questions if I’m copying my friend. I tell her, “No, it’s easy,” and she backs off, even helping me with a question I had about subtraction.
A bit later, I’m on my Chromebook doing an Edpuzzle (this detail will matter later). I finish up, close the tab, and start packing up since there were only a couple of minutes left in class. I ask her for my phone back, but she demands to see my SchoolTool account first. I explain that I just put my Chromebook away and that it takes a while to power back up, but she starts yelling at me. Class ends, and the next group comes in while she’s still shouting. Eventually, after some back-and-forth, I reluctantly waited for my slow Chromebook to boot up.
When she finally checks my SchoolTool account, she sees I have everything in except the lab. I’m pretty sure my normal science teacher hadn’t yet uploaded the Edpuzzle because it was missing. Instead of considering that, she accuses me of chatting with my friend the whole time. I tell her I did the Edpuzzle, but she doesn’t believe me. When I can’t show her proof because the tab is closed, she watches me struggle with the slow Chromebook again as I pull up Canvas to show that I did complete the assignment.
After a drawn-out ordeal, she finally lets me leave, about six minutes past class time. And of course, she never offered an apology for her mistake.
What a gem of a teacher, right?
Wow, that sounds like an incredibly frustrating experience! It’s so annoying when teachers seem to misunderstand kids’ intentions and jump to conclusions instead of giving them the benefit of the doubt. It sounds like Mrs. Twat could use a lesson in communication and patience herself!
You’re right to feel upset—being late is one thing, but being accused of not doing your work, especially when you had clearly completed the task, is just unfair. It’s even worse when her lack of trust disrupts everyone else in the class. The fact that she didn’t even apologize for the mix-up after you finally proved you did the edpuzzle just adds salt to the wound!
Hopefully, you can just push through this class and don’t let her attitude get to you too much. It’s great that you have friends to support you, and hopefully, you won’t have Mrs. Twat for too long!
