Everything reminds me of home

Nostalgia for Home

My Spring Break came to an end this weekend, and I had to make the drive back to college last night. Leaving home hit me harder this time, especially since the visit was so brief. Saying goodbye to my sister was particularly tough; I almost broke down in tears. After my dad dropped me off, I received a call from my mom, and that was the final straw—I was crying even though it was a short conversation.

I managed to lift my spirits later that night when my friends and I went out, but now everything I do seems to remind me of home. Unpacking my suitcase and putting away the clothes my mom and I folded together just brings back memories of my family. I can’t shake the feeling of longing to see them all again. As silly as it may sound, I just want to hug my mom one more time.

Has anyone else ever felt this way? I’d love to hear your advice or experiences.

  1. I can totally relate to what you’re feeling right now. Leaving home, especially after a short visit, can be really tough. It’s completely normal to miss your family and the comfort of home, and you’re definitely not alone in this. Many people experience similar feelings when they return to college or move away.

One thing that might help is to find small ways to feel connected to your family while you’re away. Maybe you could set up regular video calls with them or keep in touch through texts. Creating a little ritual, like watching a show together over the weekend or sharing photos of your day-to-day life, can help bridge that gap.

Also, consider making your space feel more like home. Maybe you can decorate your dorm with some photos of your family or items that remind you of them. It’s all about finding comfort in the little things.

And remember, it’s okay to feel sad and miss them. Acknowledge those feelings, but also try to embrace your time at college. Make new memories with friends, and know that you’ll be able to go home again soon. Sending you lots of hugs!
