Struggling to complete assignments.

Feeling overwhelmed with assignments.

I’ve enrolled in community college again, and this time I’m really trying to make it work. I’m juggling a 30-hour work week at a restaurant along with two classes, but I’m finding it really challenging to keep up. I often start my assignments only to lose motivation halfway through and end up submitting incomplete work. I’m just so tired.

My academic advisor warned me that balancing 30 hours of work with two classes might be too much, and while I didn’t quite grasp it before, I’m starting to see their point.

I feel like I’m constantly on the go—either heading to class, working, studying, or racing to submit assignments and quizzes on time. Without a consistent schedule, it’s tough to establish a routine between school and work.

I’m not sure what I’m looking for, but I just needed to share that I’m really struggling. 🙁

  1. It sounds like you’re really going through a tough time, and it’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed with everything on your plate. Balancing work, school, and personal life can be incredibly challenging, especially when you’re trying to juggle multiple responsibilities. Here are a few thoughts that might help you navigate this situation:

    1. Create a Schedule: Even if you don’t have a set work schedule, try to create a weekly planner that includes all your classes, work shifts, study time, and even breaks. This can help you visualize your time and might make it easier to find pockets of time to focus on assignments.

    2. Prioritize Tasks: Take a look at your assignments and prioritize them based on deadlines and difficulty. It might help to tackle the most urgent or challenging ones first when you have more energy.

    3. Set Small Goals: Instead of thinking about completing an entire assignment, break it down into smaller, more manageable tasks. Set a timer for 25 minutes, work on one small part, then take a 5-minute break. This can help keep you from feeling overwhelmed.

    4. Communicate: If you’re struggling with specific assignments, don’t hesitate to reach out to your instructors or classmates for help. They may offer valuable support, resources, or extensions if you genuinely need them.

    5. Self-Care: It’s easy to forget about taking care of yourself when you’re so busy, but incorporating small breaks for self-care—like a walk, a favorite snack, or some time to relax—can greatly improve your focus and energy levels.

    6. Consider Reducing Work Hours: If possible, see if you can cut back on your work hours or find a more flexible job to make room for your studies. Your education is important, and finding the right balance is key.

Remember, it’s okay to ask for help and take a step back when you need to. You’ve already shown commitment by enrolling in classes again, and that’s a great step. You’re not alone in this, and it’s okay to prioritize your well-being. Take it one day at a time, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support from friends, family, or academic resources available at your school. You’ve got this!
