Do you think this is possible?

Do you think I can make this work? I’m planning my upcoming year as an engineering major and would like to keep my job at a nearby Starbucks for extra income. I’m also considering becoming an RA (which would cover my housing), joining a science competition club, and still having time for a social life. Do you think this might be too overwhelming as a student? I’ve managed intense coursework and extracurriculars in the past, but I haven’t juggled them alongside a job.

  1. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, but it’s definitely possible to balance all of these commitments if you plan carefully! Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Time Management: With your engineering major, you’re likely already familiar with managing your time effectively. Create a detailed schedule that includes classes, study time, work shifts, and time for clubs and socializing. This will help you visualize your commitments.

    2. Prioritize: While it’s great to be involved in multiple activities, it’s important to prioritize what matters most to you. If you feel overwhelmed, consider scaling back on one of your commitments or being selective about which social events you attend.

    3. Workplace Flexibility: Check in with your Starbucks manager about potential flexibility in your work hours. Many student jobs can accommodate changing schedules, especially around exam times.

    4. Understand Your Energy Levels: Pay attention to how you feel as the semester progresses. If you find you’re becoming too stressed or exhausted, it’s okay to adjust your commitments. Remember, your mental health is just as important as academic success.

    5. Academic Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you need it. Many universities offer resources for time management and academic support.

In short, it’s definitely manageable with the right planning and balance! Good luck with your engineering journey!

Housing alternatives?

Looking for housing alternatives? I’m a rising sophomore in college, and I’m really struggling to figure out how to afford school next year. I applied to be a Resident Advisor but ended up on the waitlist, so I can’t count on that (even if I get off, it only covers half of my housing costs). […]
