Does anyone else feel bad about not reading the out of class materials?

Does anyone else struggle with keeping up with out-of-class reading materials? There’s just so much to get through, and I often find myself skipping about half of it because it doesn’t seem worth the effort in the long run. I tend to focus on independent research that I believe benefits me more.

Yet, paying $10k a year for this education makes me feel like I’m not maximizing my experience. Anyone else feel this way?

  1. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed by the volume of reading and to question the value of certain materials. Many students experience the same struggle, especially when they have the opportunity to engage in independent research that feels more relevant and beneficial to their goals.

It’s important to remember that not everything assigned in class will resonate with every student, and prioritizing what aligns with your interests and career aspirations can sometimes be more valuable than completing every assignment. Perhaps you can talk to your professors about which materials are most essential for your learning and future success. They might even appreciate your initiative and help you find a balance that meets your educational needs without overwhelming you.

Ultimately, it’s about finding a balance between the required readings and your own pursuits. You’re investing in your education, so it’s important to focus on what you find most valuable while still meeting the core requirements of your program. Don’t be too hard on yourself—it’s all part of the learning journey!
