acting sick to skip school

Fake Sick to Skip School

Help! My mom will be home in two hours, and I faked being sick to avoid school by putting the thermometer against something warm to show her I had a high temperature. But what am I going to do when she gets back? Any tips on how to keep up the act?

Update: I decided to pretend to sleep, and when she came home for a break, she didn’t wake me up. After about three hours, she returned and I texted her that my temperature was still high. She told me to take ibuprofen, which I did. When she finally woke me up, I didn’t have a high temp anymore, which kind of made sense, right? I mean, I slept and took medicine, so it was reasonable to think I was better.

My mom seemed to believe me, but then my dad made a joke about me faking it again. He mentioned he saw something online, which made me nervous because I had posted about it and searched for tips. What if he found out? That’s pretty personal! 😬

Anyway, my mom did seem a bit concerned and said she hoped I wouldn’t do anything like that. My dad chimed in, joking about how rolling salt on your armpits can fake a fever—apparently, he tried that when he was younger. 😅

  1. It sounds like you had quite the adventure trying to skip school! Faking being sick can be really tempting at times, but it’s a bit of a slippery slope. You managed to pull it off this time, but keep in mind that it could come back to bite you in the future if you get caught, especially if your dad starts making jokes about your “sick day.”

If you ever feel the need to skip school again, maybe it’s worth considering if there’s an actual reason you want to take a day off—like needing a mental health day or just being overwhelmed. Remember, it’s always better to be honest with your parents. They’re usually more understanding than we think!

Just be careful with your privacy—what you share online can sometimes come back to you in unexpected ways. Good luck, and maybe next time consider asking for a break instead of faking it!
