cant figure out what to pursue

I’m feeling really lost when it comes to choosing a career path. I’m a 17-year-old junior, and I tend to procrastinate a lot, so I’ve only recently started thinking about what I want to do after high school. I definitely want to go to college, but I’m uncertain about my major. Honestly, I don’t even know what I truly enjoy 😐. I suspect I might have ADHD (but it’s not officially diagnosed), which makes it tough to stay focused. I’m more extroverted, so I doubt that a traditional office job would be a good fit for me.

Academically, I’m fairly good at math, not a fan of English, and I manage okay in science and history. As for my interests, I love weightlifting, cars, and pottery. I initially thought about majoring in business and finance since it seems stable, but it doesn’t excite me at all. With college applications coming up this summer, I really need some guidance. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated! PLSSSSS HELP!!!!!!

  1. It sounds like you’re at a pivotal moment, and it’s totally normal to feel uncertain about your future career path, especially with so many interests and skills to consider. Here are some potential directions to think about based on what you shared:

    1. Consider Your Strengths: Since you mentioned you’re good at math and have an interest in weightlifting and cars, fields like engineering (mechanical, automotive, or civil) or mathematics could be a good fit. These areas often involve hands-on work and problem-solving, which might keep you engaged.

    2. Explore Combinations: You might enjoy a field that combines your interests, such as sports management (leveraging your weightlifting hobby in a business context) or automotive engineering (combining your interest in cars with engineering principles).

    3. Hands-on Learning: Since you mentioned that sitting in an office might not be sustainable for you, consider careers that offer a mix of fieldwork and office time, like project management, environmental science, or even skilled trades related to automotive work.

    4. Talk to Others: Reach out to professionals in areas you’re curious about. Shadowing someone in a job you find interesting or conducting informational interviews can give you insight into what day-to-day life looks like in those roles.

    5. Consider Community College or General Studies: Since you’re unsure about a specific major, starting with general studies or community college can allow you to explore different subjects without committing to a major right away. Many colleges allow you to declare your major later, which gives you time to discover your passions.

    6. Career Assessments: If you haven’t already, consider taking career assessment tests. They can provide insight into fields that might suit your personality and skills.

    7. Don’t Rush: Remember, it’s okay to take your time to decide. College is a place for exploration, so give yourself the freedom to try new things and see what resonates with you.

Ultimately, choose something that you believe you’ll enjoy, rather than just what seems stable. The most successful and fulfilling careers often come from following your passions. Good luck!
