Should I attend my graduation?
Hey everyone! I could really use some advice. I’m a college student graduating this spring, but I’m currently taking classes online. I live about an hour away from campus and only attended in-person my freshman year. I’m also graduating a year early, so I don’t know anyone in my graduating class.
I’m torn about whether or not to attend the ceremony. On one side, it feels expensive and inconvenient, especially since I don’t know anyone, and the event could be long and boring. On the other hand, it’s a significant milestone—my college graduation.
Have any of you skipped your graduation and later regretted it? Or did you attend and wish you hadn’t? I would appreciate any insights! Thanks!
It’s totally understandable to feel torn about attending graduation, especially considering your unique situation. Here are a few things to think about:
Celebrating Accomplishments: Graduation is a significant milestone. Even if you don’t know anyone, it’s a moment to celebrate your hard work and dedication.
Memories and Closure: Attending the ceremony can provide a sense of closure to your college journey, even if it’s been mostly online. You might enjoy the experience more than you expect!
Connections: You might meet fellow graduates or professors you’ve only interacted with online. It could be a great way to network and expand your connections.
Regret Factor: Many people who skipped their graduation ceremony expressed that they wished they had attended to celebrate their achievement, even if it felt daunting at first.
Consider Alternatives: If you’re concerned about costs or the experience, think about going for just the ceremony without the full graduation package. You can celebrate with friends and family afterward in a way that feels right for you.
Ultimately, it’s your decision. Think about what feels best for you, and whatever you choose, make sure to celebrate your accomplishment in a way that feels meaningful!
