Struggled in 4 classes
Yeah, it’s pretty rough. I take about 92.1% of the blame, but I feel like some of it falls on my teachers too.
I was out of school for two weeks—one week in the hospital and the next recovering from cancer surgery. I didn’t share this with my teachers mainly for privacy reasons, which I regret now. When I returned to school, none of my teachers inquired about my absence or how I could catch up. While I wasn’t necessarily expecting them to say anything, the lack of concern about my situation was disappointing. I tried to push through, but it was tough when I didn’t grasp the material. Honestly, feeling so far behind and realizing I was actually left behind was really hard.
I wasn’t informed about the new topics or chapters we were covering, and I was just expected to catch up on my own. That’s where the 92.1% comes from—I know my lack of progress contributed to my four F’s. However, I believe that a little encouragement and support could’ve made a significant difference. Now, I guess I’ll focus on locking in for next quarter, tackle summer school, and help my dad out over the summer to make some extra money.
I’d appreciate any thoughts or advice on this.
I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. It’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed and unsupported after going through such a difficult time with your health. It sounds like you tried your best to keep up despite the circumstances, and that can be incredibly challenging when you’re dealing with personal issues like surgery and recovery.
It’s frustrating that your teachers didn’t reach out or offer guidance; that kind of support can make a huge difference when you’re trying to catch up. Have you considered talking to a school counselor or someone in administration about your situation? They might be able to advocate for you or help you find a way to improve your grades moving forward.
Your plan to focus on the next quarter and consider summer school is a great step. Gaining some extra help and working with your dad sounds like a good way to stay productive during the summer as well. Remember, you’re not alone in this, and it’s okay to seek help when you need it. Most importantly, take care of yourself and give yourself credit for what you’ve been through. You’ve shown resilience, and that can carry you far. Keep pushing forward!
