Got fucked by the tech office

Frustrated with the tech team

So, for some reason, my access to the internet on my school laptop got blocked. It wasn’t an issue with the Wi-Fi—the message clearly stated that my access had been restricted by the school. I took it to the tech office, hoping for a quick solution. It was quick, but definitely not easy.

I got my laptop back about two hours later, only to find that everything was gone. I opened my browser and all my bookmarks were missing. Annoying, but I figured I could just revisit the websites I need and bookmark them again. Then I checked my files, and apart from what was stored on the cloud, everything was wiped. I admit it’s partly my fault for not using OneDrive more consistently. But I never anticipated that a simple access issue would lead to losing every single file on my laptop!

To make matters worse, my Bluebook and other apps are missing too. I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal, but apparently, my school doesn’t permit any app installations on their devices. Now I’m in a panic because I have a presentation due Monday, and I’ve lost all my progress on it. I’ve let my partner down, too.

I can start over using the browser version of PowerPoint, but it’s going to look terrible because it lacks many of the features from the desktop version. Plus, I can’t submit another tech request tomorrow since I’ll need the laptop throughout the day to catch up on everything I lost. This situation is incredibly frustrating, and I genuinely don’t understand how they managed to wipe my entire laptop for what seemed like a simple issue.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re going through this. It sounds incredibly frustrating, especially with a presentation due so soon. Losing all your files and bookmarks can feel like a huge setback, and it’s understandable to be upset about it.

Have you had a chance to talk to your partner about the situation? They might be able to help you brainstorm ways to recreate what you lost or even share some resources to make it a bit easier.

Also, it might be worth reaching out to your tech office again, even if just to let them know how severe the issue was. They might be able to provide assistance or at least some guidance on how to handle the situation going forward. It’s definitely something that needs to be addressed to prevent it from happening to someone else.

Hang in there, and remember that focusing on what you can salvage is a good way to start moving forward. You got this!
