What happens to my financial aid and loans if I fail the semester?
I’ve been dealing with some significant mental health challenges and, unfortunately, I’m not doing well in my classes. Most of my tuition is covered by financial aid and a small loan. If I fail, will I need to repay the financial aid I received?
I’m really sorry to hear that you’re struggling. It’s important to reach out to your school’s financial aid office as they can give you the most accurate information about your specific situation. Generally, if you flunk a semester, it may affect your financial aid eligibility moving forward, but it doesn’t typically require you to repay aid already disbursed for that semester. However, you might be placed on academic probation or have to meet certain criteria to maintain your aid in the future.
Additionally, many schools have resources for students facing mental health challenges, so it might be beneficial to connect with your campus counseling services as well. Remember, you’re not alone in this, and there are people who want to help you navigate both your academic and mental health struggles. Take care of yourself.
