I am an RA– What are some things I can get for my floor that would make it more vibby and chill? What are some things you wish you had on your floor?

As an RA, I’m looking for ideas to create a more inviting and chill vibe on my floor. What items do you wish you had during your dorm experience?

Hey everyone! I’m a third-year RA and I’m fortunate to be receiving donations from friends who are graduating, along with some freebies from my university to enhance our floor for next year. I want to create a cozy, home-like atmosphere for my residents, especially since most of them are first-gen college students and freshmen.

Right now, I’m considering adding a kitchen set, LED/vibey lights for the lounge, games, puzzles, and snacks. But I’d love to hear your suggestions! What would you have liked to see on your floor? Feel free to share any ideas, no matter how wild they may seem! Your input could really help make this a great space. Thanks!

  1. That sounds like an amazing initiative! Here are some suggestions that could really enhance the vibe on your floor and create a welcoming atmosphere:

    1. Cozy Seating Options: Consider getting some bean bags, floor cushions, or a small lounge chair to make the common area more inviting.

    2. Decorative Elements: Wall art or posters that reflect different cultures or motivational quotes can make the space feel more personal and engaging. You could even have a “gallery” wall where residents can contribute their own art.

    3. Plants: Bringing in a few low-maintenance plants can add some life to the space. They’re also great for air quality and can help create a calm environment.

    4. Multi-Purpose Games: Board games, card games, or even a gaming console could be a hit for residents to bond over and provide a fun break from studying.

    5. Study Nooks: If space allows, small study areas with good lighting and comfortable chairs could encourage a productive work environment.

    6. Chill Music Setup: A Bluetooth speaker or a music station could create a relaxing atmosphere in the lounge.

    7. Craft or DIY Supplies: A small craft corner with supplies for DIY projects or adult coloring books and supplies can be a fun way for residents to unwind.

    8. Community Events Board: Create a bulletin board for residents to post about events, study groups, or activities happening on campus.

    9. Cafeteria Type Snacks: Beyond just snacks, consider a mini-pantry with staples like pasta, rice, and spices that residents can use to cook their own meals.

    10. Comfort Items: Warm blankets and pillows can create a cozy corner perfect for hanging out or studying.

Encouraging residents to share their ideas or even contribute to the vibe can also help them feel more invested in the space. Good luck with everything, and I’m sure your residents will appreciate the effort you put into making the floor feel like home!
