I hate my classmates and I feel so alone. (kinda a vent)

Feeling really lonely and frustrated with my classmates right now. (Just need to vent a bit.)

I’m a 17-year-old guy, and honestly, I can’t stand my classmates. The guys seem to think they’re superior to girls, and some of them have extreme viewpoints. The guy I previously had a connection with ended up choosing my ex-best friend/girlfriend — someone I’ve known forever — over me. I felt like I was only valued for my help with homework. When I tried to talk to her about treating people better, she cut ties with me. Plus, she didn’t like me hanging out with anyone else! And now, that same guy has become one of those extreme guys.

I guess I’m seen as the odd one out because I’m attracted to both guys and girls, which makes things even tougher.

The boys in my class are pretty rough to deal with, and while the girls are slightly better, I still don’t feel a connection with them. After I broke up with my girlfriend, a lot of them just stopped talking to me, even though they claimed to dislike her while she was around. I talked to my close friends — one of them hates her, while the other was friends with her — and they both had no idea why everyone abandoned me for her.

I’m doing my best here. I keep up decent grades, get involved in projects I care about, and I’m in a punk band. But it seems like no one appreciates that. I take care of my health and exercise regularly. I know I’m more introverted, but I’m really approachable — so why did they side with someone who mistreated them?

Although it’s been rough, I’ve managed to find a few good friends after the breakup who mean everything to me. Sorry for rambling on, but high school is starting to make less and less sense to me, and I’m just feeling really drained right now.

Thanks for reading, and any advice would be appreciated!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time, and I’m sorry to hear that. First off, it’s totally okay to vent – your feelings are valid, and you deserve space to express them. High school can be such a confusing and challenging time, especially with the social dynamics at play.

It’s incredibly frustrating when people choose to associate with someone who treats them poorly, especially when you’ve tried to speak out against it. It says a lot about their priorities and maturity, not yours. You deserve friends who appreciate you for who you are, not just as someone to lean on for homework or to fill some social role.

The fact that you have a few friends who really value you is a bright spot in all of this. Those connections can make such a difference, especially when navigating a difficult environment. Focus on nurturing those relationships; they sound like they provide the support you need.

As for the rest, it’s important to remember that high school doesn’t define your worth or who you’ll be in the future. Your interests, like being in a punk band and your passion for your grades, are things that truly reflect who you are. Keep being true to yourself, and try to surround yourself with those who genuinely appreciate you.

If it feels overwhelming, consider talking to a counselor or a trusted adult who can help you process these feelings and navigate the situation. Hang in there, and keep looking ahead; things often get better after high school, and your individuality will shine even more as you move forward.
