I never finish the whole handwritten section of the maths test. Is it the way they format the maths test? or is it me.

I always struggle to finish the handwritten section of my math test. Is it due to the test format, or could it be something about my own approach? Just to give you some context, in my online school, the math test consists of 15 multiple-choice questions and 5 handwritten sections, each with about 4-5 questions, all to be completed in one sitting. The total score is 15 marks for the online portion and 25 marks for the handwritten part.

Every year, the structure remains the same, and I consistently fail to complete the handwritten section, which ends up costing me around 9 marks that I could have easily earned. It’s worth noting that I’m not bad at math—I used to get straight A’s in physical school, and I grasp the concepts just fine. So I can’t help but wonder: is it just me, or is it the way the math test is set up?

  1. It sounds like you’re facing a challenging situation with the handwritten section of your math test. Based on what you’ve described, it could be a combination of both factors: the test formatting and your pacing during the exam.

The structure of having a limited time for a significant amount of work can certainly add pressure, especially if you’re used to working through problems at a different pace. Since you’ve mentioned that you were doing well in physical school, it seems like you have a good grasp of the concepts, which is great!

Here are a few suggestions that might help you manage your time better during the test:

    1. Practice under timed conditions: Try simulating the exam environment at home. Set a timer for the same duration as your test and practice answering similar questions. This can help you get accustomed to the time pressure.

    2. Prioritize questions: When you start the handwritten section, quickly skim through the questions and identify which ones you feel most confident about. Tackle those first to secure those marks and boost your confidence.

    3. Time management: Allocate a specific amount of time for each question or section. Keeping an eye on the clock can help ensure you don’t spend too long on any one problem.

    4. Work on speed: Look for ways to solve problems more efficiently. Sometimes, there are shortcuts or methods that can help you arrive at the answer more quickly without sacrificing accuracy.

    5. Reach out for feedback: Consider discussing this with your teacher or a tutor. They may have insights or strategies specifically tailored for the format of your tests.

Remember, it’s perfectly okay to seek help and make adjustments to your approach. With some practice and a few strategies, you might find that you can complete the section within the time limits. Good luck!
