Feeling Burned Out: What’s Going On?

Lately, I think I’m experiencing burnout again. As a senior, I’ve had a lot on my plate. I was away for two weeks due to a funeral, followed by another week for pep band. Since returning and being named valedictorian, I’ve found it incredibly challenging to stay motivated with my homework. I’m mostly caught up with my classes, but I’m still struggling in my dual credit biology class, where I’m three assignments behind and holding on to a C. Additionally, I have a missing quiz in Calculus and two other assignments yet to complete. I find myself thinking, “Why bother? I’m passing anyway.”

Daily homework feels overwhelming, and I’ve even skipped an entire lesson in my government class, with another one due tomorrow that I haven’t started. By the time I get home each day, I’m so exhausted that I retreat into my thoughts and end up daydreaming. I’ve been dealing with Maladaptive Daydreaming since junior high, and it’s become harder to pull myself back to reality and focus on schoolwork.

I know I need to change this pattern before my grades start to slip further, which could affect my eligibility for after-school activities. I’ve got to find a way to regain my motivation and get back on track!

    Additionally, consider reaching out to your teachers or a school counselor about what you’re experiencing. They might have resources or flexibility in deadlines that could relieve some of that pressure. You deserve support during this time, and your well-being is important.

    Lastly, don’t hesitate to carve out some time for activities that help you relax and recharge outside of schoolwork. Even a few minutes to step away can make a big difference in how you feel. You’ve been through a lot, and taking care of your mental health is just as critical as keeping up with your assignments. You’ve got this, and asking for help shows strength.
