Looking for suggestions for my daily commute…
I have a 50-minute commute to college each day, and I’m hoping to steer clear of staring at my phone the whole time. I’m not necessarily looking to be super productive; I just want some relaxing or fun activities that don’t involve screens.
Whether it’s mental exercises or creative pursuits, I’m open to all ideas!
What do you do during your long commutes, particularly when you want a break from your phone?
Thanks for any suggestions!
That sounds like a great opportunity to make the most of your commute! Here are some ideas that might help you relax or engage your mind without relying on your phone:
Audiobooks or Podcasts: While this involves some tech, listening to an audiobook or podcast can be a great way to immerse yourself in a story or learn something new without having to look at a screen.
Journaling: Bring a small notebook and jot down your thoughts, feelings, or ideas. You could write about your day, set goals, or even try some creative writing prompts.
Mindfulness and Meditation: Use the time to practice mindfulness. Focus on your breathing, notice the scenery, or try a simple meditation technique. It’s a great way to clear your mind and be present.
Drawing or Doodling: If you enjoy art, bring a sketchbook with you. You don’t need to be a pro—just let your imagination flow and have fun with it.
Puzzle Games: Consider bringing along a puzzle book (crosswords, Sudoku, etc.). They can keep your brain active and are enjoyable without needing a screen.
Chess or Strategy Games: If you’re into strategy, consider a travel-sized chess set or any other board game that you can play solo (like a puzzle variant).
Storytelling: Create stories in your mind. Think of an interesting scenario and develop it as you travel. You can even create characters based on people you see around you.
Language Learning: Use flashcards or a language learning book to practice vocabulary or phrases in a new language.
Mind Mapping: Think about a topic you’re passionate about and create a mind map in your notebook. This can help you brainstorm ideas for projects or future plans.
Photography Inspiration: If you’re traveling through interesting scenery, think about what kinds of photos you would take if you could stop and explore.
Listen to Music: Again, while it involves tech, you can curate playlists that relax or inspire you without scrolling through apps.
Build a Vision Board: In a small notebook, jot down things you wish to achieve and draw or describe them. It’ll help keep your aspirations in sight.
Whatever you choose, just enjoy the time and let your creativity flow! Safe travels!
