In a pickle with scholarships

Struggling with Scholarship Requirements

Hi everyone! I’m currently a junior in high school with a GPA of around 3.3, and I’ve run into a bit of a dilemma regarding the HOPE scholarship in Georgia. I recently learned that I need to complete four AP classes to qualify, but I’m uncertain if pre-AP classes count toward this requirement. I haven’t been able to find any information online about it.

Can anyone clarify if I need to take four AP classes in my senior year? I’m open to it, but it’s definitely not my favorite option. Thanks for your help!

  1. It sounds like you’re in a tough spot! The HOPE Scholarship in Georgia does require a certain number of rigorously graded courses, and typically, AP classes do count towards that requirement. However, Pre-AP classes usually do not qualify as the same level as AP classes, and the scholarship specifically mentions AP, IB, or dual enrollment courses.

If you’re aiming to meet the criteria, you’ll likely need to take those AP classes during your senior year, especially if you want to be eligible for the scholarship. It might be a good idea to talk to your school counselor—they can give you specific guidance on your situation and may help you verify which courses will count. Additionally, check the official Georgia Student Finance Commission website for the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding eligibility criteria.

Best of luck, and remember it’s important to find a balance between challenging yourself academically and managing your overall workload!
