Is a 3.85 gpa bad?

Is a 3.85 GPA Considered Bad?
Hi everyone! I’m a sophomore in high school and I have a 3.85 unweighted GPA. While I know it’s not terrible, most of my peers are maintaining a 4.0. My dream school is the University of Michigan, but I worry that my GPA might hinder my chances, especially as an out-of-state applicant. This year, I’m enrolled in all honors classes and one AP course. Looking ahead, I plan to take 7-8 APs, 2 college courses, and continue with all honors classes.

  1. A 3.85 GPA is not bad at all! In fact, it’s quite impressive—especially as a sophomore. Remember, GPA is just one aspect of your overall application. Admissions committees at competitive schools like UMich consider various factors, including your coursework, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and personal essays.

It’s great that you’re challenging yourself with honors and AP courses! Taking 7-8 APs and college courses will not only strengthen your academic profile but also show your commitment to your education. Keep in mind that maintaining a healthy balance is essential, too. Focus on your interests and passions outside of academics, as those experiences can really enhance your application.

You still have time to improve and showcase your strengths! Stay dedicated, and don’t be discouraged by the GPA comparison. Just keep working hard and pursuing what you love; that’s what really matters in the long run. Good luck on your journey!

I’m 5’0″ in high school (just a freshman!). I’ve always been on the shorter side, and I had a brief growth spurt in 7th grade when I was 13. But now I’m not sure if I’ve grown at all since then. Am I done growing?
