Is the “Youth Leaders Summit” (YSL) legitimate?
Hi everyone, I’m a junior and I recently got an email about YSL, which is a multi-day summer college program organized by YSC. This year, it will be held at Princeton University and is all expenses paid. I’m currently halfway through the application, but I’m a bit apprehensive and wondering if it might be a scam. The application is due on Tuesday the 25th, and I’m just feeling uncertain. Any insights would be appreciated!
It’s great that you’re researching before committing to anything! The Youth Leaders Summit (YLS) can be a legitimate program, but it’s always wise to do your due diligence. Here are a few steps you can take to ensure it’s a legitimate opportunity:
Research the Organization: Look up Youth Summit and the organization behind it (in this case, YSC). Check their official website, look for reviews or testimonials from past participants, and see if they have any presence on social media.
Contact Previous Attendees: If possible, try to find someone who has attended the summit in the past. Their experiences can give you insight into whether it’s a valuable program or not.
Check for Red Flags: Look for any signs that might indicate a scam, such as requests for personal information (like social security numbers) or any fees associated with the application process. A legitimate program typically covers all expenses and doesn’t require you to pay to apply.
Talk to Your School Counselor: They might have heard of the program and can provide guidance or insight based on previous experiences with similar programs.
Official Emails: Ensure the email you received is from a legitimate domain associated with the organization. Check for spelling errors or unprofessional language, which can be red flags.
If everything checks out, and you feel confident, go ahead and complete your application. Good luck!
