I really need to share what’s been going on with me lately. My GPA is currently at 1.3, which isn’t great. I’m struggling in almost all of my classes except for a couple, and even in those, I’m barely getting by. I find it incredibly hard to focus during lessons, and writing assignments, especially essays, feel overwhelming. I had to drop my history class due to my anxiety, which makes it hard for me to participate.
I have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) due to my Autism and ADHD, but it seems I’m perceived as too advanced for full special education classes, yet not quite suited for mainstream ones. This leaves me feeling stuck. I’ve always dreamed of becoming a neurosurgeon, and while I excel in science and health-related courses, I fear I won’t be able to pursue that path if I can’t even graduate high school.
I don’t have many friends—just a few classmates I talk to occasionally. I’m not involved in any sports or extracurricular activities, aside from a trade program in nursing at my tech school. Honestly, I’m feeling lost and worried about what the future holds.
It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time, and I want you to know that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. It’s great that you have a passion for science and a clear goal of becoming a neurosurgeon; that’s an incredible ambition!
First, it’s important to recognize that struggling with focus and writing doesn’t define your intelligence or your potential. It’s clear that you have strengths, especially in anatomy and health, and those are valuable skills. Have you considered talking to a counselor or a teacher about your situation? They might be able to offer support or even some accommodations to help you manage the stress and anxiety.
Also, try to take small steps. Focus on one class or subject at a time, and maybe see if there are different study methods or tools that could help you with writing and staying focused. There are resources available for students with IEPs, and asking for additional support could make a difference.
As for social connections, it might help to explore clubs or activities at school that align with your interests, even if they’re not sports. Connecting with others who share similar goals or interests can really help ease feelings of isolation.
You’re not “fucked.” Many people face challenges, and seeking help is a strong step forward. Keep pushing toward your goals, and believe that with time and support, you can find a path that works for you. Stay hopeful!
