I’m considering a change in my major. Currently, I’m studying biology, but I’m only in it because I enjoyed it in high school. I’ve always had a strong passion for aerospace and have learned quite a bit about it. I’m thinking about switching to aerospace engineering, but my school doesn’t offer that program, which would mean transferring—definitely a big commitment. Plus, I have some doubts about my ability to handle the coursework since I just barely passed Calculus 1. Aerospace really inspires me, though. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

It’s great to hear that you’re thinking about what truly excites you! Passion can be such a strong motivator, especially when it comes to something as complex as aerospace engineering. Here are a few things to consider as you weigh your options:
Explore Related Fields: Even if your current school doesn’t offer aerospace engineering, look into whether there are related programs like mechanical engineering, physics, or even aerospace technology. These might provide a good foundation and still align with your interests.
Talk to Advisors and Professors: They can offer insights into both the biology and aerospace fields, and help you assess your strengths and what it would take to make the switch successfully.
Consider the Commitment: Transferring schools is indeed a big decision. Think about what you truly want for your future career. If aerospace is your passion, it might be worth the risk, but be sure you’re ready for the challenges that come with it!
Skill Building: If calculus was a struggle, consider brushing up on your math skills before making the switch. There are plenty of resources online, from tutoring to study groups, that can help you get more comfortable with the material.
Connect with Others in the Field: Try to network with aerospace professionals or students in that field. They can share their experiences, insights, and advice that can be incredibly valuable for your decision-making process.
Ultimately, follow your passion and choose a path that resonates most with your interests and goals. Good luck with your decision!
