My marketing undergraduate thesis is so easy it’s scaring me.

I’m feeling a bit unsettled about my undergraduate thesis in marketing—it feels almost too easy. My research focuses on customer satisfaction in various businesses (I’ve kept it vague for privacy reasons), and given the abundance of these businesses, ranging from small startups to luxury brands, it seems like a straightforward topic to explore. Surprisingly, there’s not a lot of existing research on this area, especially within the fashion industry, which I find intriguing. However, the ease of this research makes me think it might be trivial and not particularly impactful.

I should mention that I didn’t solely choose this topic; my university requires us to propose three topics to a panel, who then select the most viable one. Unfortunately, this was the only topic that got approved, and one of the panelists even revised the title I submitted. A professor remarked that our research is quite easy, and knowing that we can borrow tools for our questions has hit my confidence even harder.

I’ve always enjoyed a little challenge and working on my skills, so the ease of this significant project feels somewhat disappointing and has made me feel a bit resentful about it. But perhaps I can still gain valuable insights from this experience or even appreciate how manageable my thesis is compared to my classmates’ struggles. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that it could have been more challenging.
