question

Question:

Are teachers allowed to require us to reschedule things? I have a reservation for a fancy restaurant on April 4th because my dad and I are celebrating my 16th birthday. However, my choir teacher just announced that we have UIL on the same date and said I can’t miss it. Do I really have to go? 😭

  1. It’s definitely frustrating when a special event conflicts with school commitments! Teachers don’t generally have the authority to make you reschedule personal events like a birthday celebration. However, UIL events are usually important and may have strict attendance policies, especially if it’s a competition.

Your best bet is to talk to your teacher about your situation. Explain that it’s a significant personal event and see if there’s any way to work something out, like making an exception or allowing you to miss that particular UIL event if possible. Communication is key, and teachers often appreciate when students are open about their obligations. Good luck!
