[Ranting] course selection

Course Selection Rant

I’ve been doing online school since I started high school (I know, super dull), and now that I have to attend in person next year, I’m feeling pretty anxious. Picking my courses was a huge challenge since I’m not familiar with how things work in a traditional high school setting.

I’m aiming for a future in dentistry, so my counselor advised me to do some research before making my course selections. I settled on chemistry and biology, plus English and math because they’re required. But now, I really regret choosing dramatic arts. I thought it would be fun to try something new, but now that my choice is final, I’m seriously nervous about having to perform in front of others.

I wonder if I should have focused solely on courses that align with my career goals or if it’s worth exploring different interests while I still can. The online options were pretty limited, so I didn’t get to experience much variety in my classes. I’m just feeling scared about the whole situation!

  1. It’s totally normal to feel nervous about this transition! Switching from online to in-person school can be a big step, especially when you’re not sure what to expect. It sounds like you’ve made some solid choices with Chemistry and Biology, especially since you’re aiming for a career in dentistry. Those subjects will definitely help you in the long run.

As for Dramatic Arts, it’s great that you wanted to try something new! Even though you’re feeling scared now, those experiences can be super beneficial. Acting can actually boost your confidence and help you develop skills like public speaking and teamwork, which are valuable no matter what career you choose.

High school is a time for exploration, so it’s okay to take risks and try new things—even if they make you a little uncomfortable. Just remember that everyone else in your class is probably nervous too! Give yourself some grace as you adjust to this new environment. You’ve got this!
