Should I consider applying to QACI?
I’m currently in grade 8 and have been interested in attending QACI for my art for a while. However, after doing some research, I’m starting to second-guess if it’s the right fit for me. I’m an average student, usually getting As and Bs, but I do struggle with math. Initially, I thought QACI was primarily an art school, but it seems to have a strong academic focus as well. I’m concerned that the workload from the IB program might be overwhelming, especially since I want to maintain a social life and have a part-time job. What do you think?
Deciding whether to apply for QACI is definitely a big decision, and it’s great that you’re thinking about it seriously! Here are a few things to consider:
Passion for Art: If art is something you truly love and want to pursue, that passion can help motivate you through the academic challenges. QACI does have a strong focus on the arts, but as you’ve found out, it also has a rigorous academic program.
Academic Balance: While you may be an average student, getting As and Bs shows that you’re capable. It could be worthwhile to speak with your teachers or a school counselor about your math struggles. They might have suggestions on how to improve or resources that could help you manage the workload better.
Workload: The IB program can indeed be demanding, but many students thrive in that environment. If you’re organized and manage your time well, you can still have a social life and work part-time. Talk to current or past students at QACI if you can—they can give you firsthand insights about the workload and balancing everything.
Trial and Assessment: Consider whether you could take on some of the academic challenges this year to test yourself. This could help you gauge whether you’re ready for QACI’s workload.
Explore Alternatives: If you’re feeling uncertain, it might also be worth researching other schools that have strong arts programs but may offer a different approach to academics.
Ultimately, if you’re passionate about going to QACI and believe you can manage the workload, it could be worth applying. Trust your instincts and make a decision that feels right for you! Good luck!
