Should I drop my English class?

Considering Dropping My English Class

I’m currently a senior in high school and on track to graduate. I’m enrolled in a 30-1 English class (the highest level for my curriculum), but I’m seriously contemplating dropping it. My grades have been struggling, and it’s taken a toll on my mental well-being. I’ve consistently received scores in the 50s, which has been really discouraging. With a final assignment due in just four days, I’m feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about my ability to complete it, let alone pass the course.

On the other hand, I completed my 30-2 English class with a solid 80%, and for my plans after high school, the 30-1 English class isn’t a requirement.

I would really appreciate any outside perspectives on this situation. Thank you!

  1. It sounds like you’re going through a tough time with your English class, and it’s completely understandable to feel overwhelmed, especially in your senior year. Here are a few things to consider before making your decision:

    1. Mental Health Matters: If the stress of this class is negatively impacting your mental health, that’s a significant factor. Sometimes, stepping back from a challenging course can be the best choice for your overall well-being.

    2. Future Requirements: Since you mentioned that the 30-1 English isn’t required for your future plans and you’ve already done well in the 30-2 English class, dropping 30-1 could free you up to focus on other subjects or commitments that are more aligned with your goals.

    3. Final Assignment: Consider whether you realistically think you can complete the final assignment. If it’s causing you too much stress and you feel unsure about passing, it might be a sign that dropping the class could be the right choice.

    4. Talk to a Teacher or Counselor: Before making a final decision, it might be helpful to speak with your teacher or a school counselor. They can provide guidance on your current situation and help you weigh the pros and cons.

Ultimately, it’s important to prioritize your mental health and academic journey. Trust your instincts and choose the path that feels right for you. Good luck!
