Should I go to school tomorrow?

I typically have a nine-hour school day, but nearly all my teachers are sick except for one. This means I would only have one class, which lasts for 45 minutes. That sounds nice, but I live 25 minutes away by bus, and the only bus option is at 7:10 AM. My class is from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM, and the next bus home is at 12:30 PM. Unfortunately, my parents can’t drop me off or pick me up due to work commitments, and I can’t walk or bike there because of a busy road where bikes aren’t allowed.

I’m unsure of what to do. I don’t want to spend five hours waiting around for just one lesson, especially since it’s not that important. I’ve even considered pretending to be sick to stay home—my attendance has been pretty good, and I think my parents wouldn’t object. But I feel guilty about that since I’ve never done anything like it before.

On the other hand, maybe waiting five hours isn’t so bad; I could use the time to catch up on homework. However, staying home would mean I could sleep in and enjoy some downtime since it’s already past midnight. I could really use some advice. What should I do?

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a tough spot! Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Length of Wait: Waiting around for 5 hours can feel like a long time, especially if you feel like you’re not getting much out of the day. If you think you can motivate yourself to be productive during that time (like doing homework or studying), then it might be worth attending.

    2. Attendance & Future Implications: Since you mentioned you have good attendance, faking sick could weigh on your conscience. It might be better to be honest with your parents and see if they have any other suggestions or solutions.

    3. School Policy: Consider your school’s policy on missing classes. If skipping is frowned upon, it might be better to tough it out for one day.

    4. Mental Health: If the idea of going feels overwhelming and you really don’t want to be there, taking a mental health day is completely valid, as long as you feel comfortable with that choice.

Ultimately, listen to your gut. If you feel that attending for just one lesson isn’t worth the hassle, it’s okay to decide to stay home. Just make sure to communicate with your parents about your reasoning! Whatever you choose, you’ll be able to handle it.
